Mandatory “I’m gonna blog now” spiel….

Hmmm… So this is the blogosphere… Guess it’s about time that I finaly entered and started doing my share to make WWW2 work, so here’s a bit about me and what you can expect to find here in the upcoming weeks…

I’m a technocrat -  While Al Gore may have “invented the ‘net” back in the early 90’s, I’ve been hacking it a lot longer than that – since about ‘65 when my dad was working on the APOLLO missions, and we got a terminal at home (remember audio couplers and baud rates in the double digits? Yow.). The entry and subsequent takeover of the ‘net by the Great Unwashed Masses (that would be most of you folks) has been, in my opinion, a more or less good thing. If nothing else, the fact that the ‘net has become the latest (and most controversial) method of distributing porn makes it clear that we’re mainstream and here to stay…. (Remember: the Internet is for PORN, or at least so says Avenue Q on Broadway…)

By training I’m a neurobiologist (If you ever want to know all there is to know about the development and embryology of olfactory receptors and olfactory lobes in sharks, I’m your man), but I spent almost as much time working in high tech as I did in the lab. Now I’m “retired” – meaning that my doc decided that my chronic back problems are bad enough that I shouldn’t work, and the bureaucracy that I work in refuses to let me work because the doc says I can’t, blah blah blah blah…. Anyway, that means I’ve got the time to sit around and rant on the web….

 Over the next few weeks, I hope to build up the Rant Library, so come back often… Fun topics will probably include politics, war, gun control, stupid people, smart people, and whatever I feel about ranting on at any given time. Prepare to be offended. If for some reason, I *don’t manage to offend you, check back in a few days, and chances are good I’ll hit a nerve or two eventually….
